Cold Weather Coming

Water, in the various sources for different animals around the property - FROZEN - this morning! A sign of things to come up here in Minnesota. Another sign - Midnight, the wild cat, not even coming out of his outside house under the porch for his call to breakfast at 0430 hrs (29 degrees). He finally did come in for his vittles and then spent some time in his inside-the-garage house before going out on his morning roam at about 0930. Time for the slow transition from the lazy days of laying on the cool cement of the driveway to jockeying for position on the snow trails with the deer.

I need time to adapt too. Giant blizzards, although rare, have occurred here in October, (Halloween Blizzard of 1991 HERE ) serving as a rude wake-up call. Probably not even an issue with those members in more temperate climes. Anyone else already dreading the approach of the inevitable cold weather season?

I wouldn't say I'm dreading it, but not welcoming it much. I dislike the shorter days. It's dark at 7 am and 7 pm now.

I had to put the winter lining back in to my raincoat. We have had a few cold and rainy days & I am planning on yanking out my petunias and impatiens this weekend.
It's time to do the wardrobe switch too. Don't think I'll be wearing any more shorts & tank tops LOL

I love the winter. I love curling up under a warm blanket with hot tea a good book and my snuggly kitties.

I love making hot soups and stews and home made bread. I love how it feels coming inside after the rain/sleet outside and smelling how great the apartment smells.

Favorite time of year!

Not looking forward to winter at all! Was going to do some cleaning in the rabbitry this morning, but open the door, and the wind just blows clear through the barn. Forget it! Wait till the wind dies down. Everyone is fed, watered, and happy out there, that's all that matters. I came in to my warm house, and watched the wind blow from there. LOL!

Sadly, rain/sleet is not a part of Winter up here!

I hear you, Goldtanker. I lived in Minneapolis in the '80s, and there was one April 30 where we got 11" of snow. I also had only street parking that winter, so I got to shovel it.

Dreading! I despise winter!
So far it's remained rather nice... daytime is still in the upper 60s, and the average for October is mid 50s.
I don't have a garage, so in the winter I get to spend a good 10 minutes scraping frost/ice/snow off my car every time I have to go somewhere... which, now that I'm volunteering is every Saturday and 2 or 3 times during the week!

I guess I need to dig out all my wool thermals and down coats now. Only weighing 80 pounds, I almost literally have no meat on me to keep me naturally warm. And for some reason, I hate wearing clothes...especially layers and layers. I feel so restricted and confined!

I really want to move somewhere like Georgia or Florida, or Southern California!

...end rant.

23 degrees here this morning.

The old joke in Minnesota is that you put your snowblower on a flatbed trailer and start driving South. When you stop someplace for food/gas/whatever, and someone asks you "What the heck is that thing?" - - You're home!
