I love my job!!

I am not normally one to post pictures of myself on the internet, but this one just must be shared!

He's a juvenile bald eagle who we are treating at the emergency hospital. We are a 24 hour facility and see all kinds of exotics and wildlife on a daily basis. This is the first I have ever worked this closely with such a big, beautiful, and majestic bird. They teach you basic avian restraint in school but a chicken is a far throw from restraining an eagle. You don't realize the pure power and strength these creatures possess until you hold one in your own arms!

This guy is actually pretty sick (pesticide toxicity ) but I got him to eat in the wee hours of the morning today. So I am praying he makes a recovery!

I LOVE MY JOB!

That is so amazing! What a fulfilling shift!

Aren't their eyes amazing. I got to stroke an adult once and as silly as it sounds..their eyes are so deep that it's like you could see the entire universe.

Yes, I could also see the cold fury he possessed, his plots to get his revenge on me; the scape goat, for I am indeed one of he captors. He doesn't realize that we are trying to help him- he is a wild animal and probably very scared. But he seemed to look at me a new way after we fed him this morning. (We had to pry his beak open and put pieces of pheasant chick in before he got the idea). They are indeed very intelligent creatures, that is for sure.

This one only weighs 7 lbs, but the length of his wingspan is taller than I am!

Not the greatest when I last left. He seems unable to move his back legs or grip with his talons. Not a good sign. But it could be that he's just weak. My next shift is tomorrow morning, I shall see then!
