A sad day in my city

Halifax gay rights activist beaten to death outside bar | CTV News

And the worst part is that because the suspect was on a pass from the psychiatric hospital (where he's living because of another similarly violent act) he may not end up facing any sort of punishment. /sigh

Huge upset and a very somber day here.

Oh it sounds like a very bad day:/ I hate it when people kill other people.
It's quite unfair to that person, they don't deserve to die just because they were at that specific place.

It's been amazing to see so many good things in our city started because of this terrible incident. Not only a collective push for a safer city where everyone is accepted, but also a push for provincial regulations regarding psychiatric prisoner leaves to change. There were two wrongs that happened that day starting with a man who was mentally ill & violent being allowed unsupervised time out. Clearly he needed guidance while outside the facility and that support simply wasn't being provided to him.

Positive changes are coming from such a sad event which makes me so proud of my city.

It is good to hear that positive things are happening in your city after this horrible, horrible incident.

My husband and I are closely related to a gay bar/dance club in our community. Safety of the staff and patrons have been a concern since the day it opened almost one year ago. Thus far everyone has been safe, but it should never have to be a concern in the first place! All people should have a right to be who they are.
