Getting cats across the country?

Anyone have any good tips for how to get multiple cats across the country?

My cats don't really handle car rides too well, so a car ride that'd be about 2600 miles probably wouldn't be the best thing for them.

Any ideas on what I could do? I'm kind of scared about the idea of flying them out there, since I'm not sure I trust the airlines to take care of them on the flight...but that may be the only way. I won't be travelling with them either since I'll already be at the destination.

Has anyone had any good experiences with any particular airline or service that will fly a pet across country?

Just realized I probably put this in the wrong forum (woops).

Could a mod move it to the Cat Chat forum if that's where it belongs? Thanks!

I'm sure it's expensive, but have you heard of that pet-only airline? They do nothing but transport pets, and they're all in the main cabin and not in cargo. I've never heard anyone say how expensive that is, though.

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately the closest spot that the pet airways company flies out of is around 2 days drive away from where I live. My cats wouldn't handle a 2 day car ride very well So I want this to go as quick as possible for them. I wish pet airways was out here too, since I'd be willing to pay just about whatever is needed to fly them safely, comfortably and quickly to their destination

Train is an interesting thought, but I'm not sure that's doable or not from where I am. I'll have to look into it. Plus no one would be travelling with them (I'll already be at the destination).

I know regular airlines will fly pets too, but I'm not too familiar with that process, or how safe it is for the pets. Anyone have any info on that?

Why not change your plans so you CAN be with them. I don't care what your reasons for this are (none of my business), but it seems a little odd that yo,u or at least someone, can't be with them.

2 days drive to an airport? Just where the **** do you live

It's 2 days drive to the nearest airport where that pet airways pet only airline is (Denver).

Unfortunately my plans can't change. Trust me, if there was any other way I'd do it, but since I'll be likely living in a tiny **** hole of an apartment for a period of time 2800 miles away, my cats (at least most of them) are going to be staying with a family member for a short period of time.

My family members will be taking good care of them, and will be able to take them to the airport for the flight, and I'll be able to pick them up. I'm just looking for information on what other people have done to transport cats via airplane, and if the normal airlines are trustworthy for that type of thing and what experiences people have had with them.

Thanks!

If they were mine, I'd fly back and drive them home. If I had no car to drive back, I'd rent one.

I went 1800+ miles over three days driving my wife and her cat and dog.

This probably horrendously expensive, but worth getting a quote....

Pet Transport Service - Relocation - Ground Transportation Movers

There may be other similar services out there, I just googled "cat transport service" and this is the first one that popped up.
