I'm glad the story has a happy ending but I 'm sad though to think that they assumed he was dead and had a memorial service for him. I'm not in their shoes, so I won't pass judgement, I'll give the family the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they felt there was no way to get retrieve him. Thankfully the doggie is ok.

Sue, that was my first thought to! Maybe they had young kids and didn't want to traumatize them further??
I know if it would have been my dog...I'd have found someway to get to him/her...
I'm just happy the dog survived!
I used to hike the Gorge, there's beautiful waterfalls and trails, and indeed some horrendous cliffs!
