Public speaking class

My next term has public speaking as the first class. Anyone ever take a public speaking class? How was it? How harshly is body gestures, movements, etc graded on?

It was a requirement in college for me, i believe. I remember I didn't want to take it and had to.

It's not as bad as you'll build it up to be. Just choose a topic that you're passionate about and it'll make it that much easier.

Also, the teacher is there to help you get BETTER at public speaking. If you're doing doing something terribly distracting with your movements/speech then they'll let you know and you'll work on it for the next speech. They don't expect your first time up there to be a perfected soliloquy.

I am taking COM 231 right now. It is not that bad. Take topics you like and know a lot about.
We have to do a visual aid speech, a information/research speech, a persuasion speech, and a speech as our final exam. In between we have 6 chances to give a mini-speech 30 sec - 1 min long.
Our instructor video tapes the long speeches (which are between 4 and 6 minutes long), the other students evaluate the speaker, and after giving the speech we have to watch our own video (at home) and answer questions about how we did, what we could change, etc.
