I disagree, but I don't think you're far off. In my opinion, the worst is "Sweetest Day." I hadn't even heard of it until I moved to Ohio where I was "informed" that everyone in the U.S. celebrates it. Try explaining to someone that
A.) if you live in the U.S. and
B.) you don't celebrate it and
C.) no one you know celebrates it that
D.) there's no possible way that "everyone in the U.S." celebrates it.
The last thing we need as a society is another Valentine's Day. My fiance and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day and we completely reject Sweetest Day. When asked why, we both respond, "Every
day is a celebration of our love." Shuts 'em up every time.
I, too, have a problem with the commercialisation of religious holidays such as Christmas and Easter.
