For some years now there have been rumours/reports of big cats living wild in various parts of the UK. Farmers have found sheep that appear to have been killed by a large animal, and people have even reported seeing them. It's thought that they may have been released by irresponsible owners, when it became illegal to own large wild animals here a few years ago.
Well, I know the rumours are true, 'cos I've seen one
I just thought I'd share the experience with you.
It was about 3 years ago, when my Partner and I were on a canal boat holiday. We had just moored up at a water station to fill the tanks. Partner was doing the bit with the hoses, and I was just idly looking at a field on the oppostide bank (nb - British Canals are quite narrow, so it wasn't that far away) Then I saw an *big* cat in the field, moving very slowly, obviously stalking something. It was about the size of a panther, but more of a brown than black colour.
I couldn't believe my eyes. I called Partner - as soon as he saw it he jumped back on to the boat to try to get the camera. Of course by the time he'd found it, the cat had slunk into the undergrowth.
Have any of you other UK people seen one
I consider myself really lucky to have got a sighting -- at a safe distance
By the way, for those of you that may know it, this was on the Stratford on Avon canal and we were somewhere near Solihull, a few miles outside Birmingham. So, in the country, but not somewhere *really* remote.
