Any photographers?

I've been dabbling in some amateur photography recently. Mostly taking pictures of scenary and other similar things. The problem is that I lack professional training so I was hoping maybe someone could offer some tips. My plan is to take a photography class sometime before I get my degree, which is right around the corner, lol.

I took some pictures yesterday, if anyone's interested I can put them on the web so that you can critique them.

I don't know much about photography but I Love taking pictures. Most of my pictures are terrible (and most are of my cats). Well, I think that it is cool that you are interested in it too.

Thanks. Part of the reason I'm so interested in it is because people always compliment me on the photos that I take.

When it's something more abstract like scenary I start to struggle and to me, they just look like pictures. They don't resemble art.

Well, if you get complimented that must mean your pretty good. When it comes to those abstract things, maybe it just takes time to get the nak of it.

I've been trying to take more pictures too - I like it. A simple way to be artistic. You should post some of your pics.

ok, here are two that I took of the downtown area around here:
one, two

Michigan Avenue: This one I liked because of the way it looks down the street. I tried to place the stopsign on the right like that.

Street sign: With the sign being off center, I actually believe there was a bit more balance to it.

Broomfield Rd.: I like the idea of a picture of a "wintery country road" but I don't think I captured it as well as I could've here.

B&W: I was dying to do some black and white pictures.. I knew with all of the snow it was a bad idea so I was trying to do some experimental pictures of my car. Like only taking a picture of the right quarter panel or something... this was the best I got. (not so good, lol)

Hey! I don't know much about photography, but I think your pictures were good. Esp. the 2nd one of the downtown area and the Broomfield Road one (Taken from good angles).

They're all lovely. I especially like Michigan Avenue and the wintry country roac. I am an amateur painter, so I know very little, but (I hope I'm right!) the Stop Sign, being red, grabs the eye and leads you out of the picture, rather than into it. The country road certainly leads you in. I love landscapes. Bean is the artist here. Bean, what do you think? I'm not good at composition.
