Braces?

I am finally getting my wisdom teeth pulled in November (when my waiting period for insurance is up). Then it's on to braces.

Anyone here have/had braces? Any info on cost, options, etc.? My appt. with the ortho probably won't be until after my wisdom teeth are pulled so I just want some basic idea of what to expect.

Really wish I could have gone through this as a child, but my family didn't have the money. At least I can do it now.

Tina

Ive had both removable and fixed.

Here in the UK if you are under16 dental treatment is free.

I had 3 yes THREE removable braces. I hated them, they made me talk funny and sit gets all cought between it and your palet. I never wore them for more than a day or only at night.
In the end my detist put fixed braces in, which I had for 2 years.
At first your teeth are so tender, but it soon goes. The sad thing is you cant bite into apples, the first thing I did when I got mine off was eat an apple. I was given a special toothbrush which would get in between the wires aswell. My mouth hygine stayed fine while they were in.
They were glued to my teeth, when they are take off they kinda scrape it, I bet now your thinking oh god. But I dont remember it hurting at all, not even the metal rings on my back teeth. (my dentist even let me choose which colour elastics I wanted hehe)

Im sure there are many pictures online, but if you like I can take a picture of moulds my dentist gave me. One of my mouth before braces and one after. The change is amazing, I had teeth growing over each other before which are now lovely and straight.

I had braces for 2 years (almost exactly, muahahaha). The cost for me was around $3,800 but the place I went to had a payment plan. My mom is currently going through the process, and her's were $4,800 (within two years, the price increased that much!).

That's the pricing for Munster, Indiana. I'm sure it varies by place. Hopefully you'll be able to set up a payment plan.

I think the "clear" braces are more expensive, but they look weird. I mean, you can definitely see them within conversation distance, so it's probably not worth it. Besides, braces make adults look younger (my mom looks early-mid 30s with her and she's almost 50!).

Oh, and eating soft foods the first day or two after you get the wires changed/tightened will be ingrained. And when you first get them on, don't eat steak. =oD

I had the clear ones and hated them. They just made my teeth look gross. But I didn't want colored ones that stood out either. Hmph. Have you looked into the...oh I don't remember what they call them. You know the retainers they give people that are like plastic molds of your teeth and you slide them over? Well the braces like that now that you have changed every so often... someone will know what I'm talking about

I would have much rather used something like that. I knew people who used the retainers and you really couldn't tell. Oh well. Good luck with them!

Invisaline, I believe, is what you're talking about. I'm not sure of the specifics with that, but I do believe they take longer (maybe twice as long) as regular braces.

YES!! That's it I just know I'd rather use those. I HATED my braces.

Not to mention I didn't clean them nearly as much as I should have and ended up with really swollen gums (they pretty much touched the tops of the braces). I was just a dumb kid who didn't care. I'm ok now, but they were such a pain. I was also in them for four years instead of the two they originally said I'd be in them.

From what I've read, my teeth are too crowded for Invisiline. And since I need work on my bite, I don't think I can get the ones that go on the back of your teeth either.

This is just a ridiculous amount of money. I had no idea.
