For me, nothing tops these movies:

Shawshank Redemption
As Good As It Gets
Dead Poet's Society
American Outlaws
Disney's Fantasia
A River Runs Through It

I'll watch them anytime they are on.

Tina

Ooooo! Shawshank Redemption!!! I don't own it, but everytime it comes on, I can't seem to NOT watch it. The end always makes me cry. I'm so happy for Red and Andy...especially Red. Morgan Freeman is such a wonderful actor.

Ooh...what fun...no particular order, of course. We keep a list so that when one of us is sick in bed, the other knows what movies to get (we also have a "guilty pleasures" list for when we're mentally fried and want to watch something silly)

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Orlando
Barry Lyndon
Dangerous Liaisons
Dr. Strangelove
A Clockwork Orange
Dogma
Boys in the Band
Trainspotting
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
The Taming of the Shrew
Shadows & Fog
Murder by Death
Torch Song Trilogy
History of the World, Part I (also Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein)
Any Monty Python
The Three Musketeers/Four Musketeers (1974 version)
Cromwell
The World According to Garp
(there are several others, but the list is just too long...I am leaving out some major classics as they're always a given)

Some of the Guilty Pleasures:
All That Jazz
White Nights
The Big Chill
War of the Roses
Guys & Dolls
The Full Monty
Saturday Night Fever
The Princess Bride
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
Dazed and Confused
Flashback
Baby Boom
Any Mystery Science Theater 3000

You get the idea....since we only get out to the movies once or twice a year (there's just not much we'll pay $7 to see...we are insanely cheap), we tend to wait for everything to come out on video And then we forget to rent it when it does come out. Hopeless goobers, we are.

I love a good depressing/sweet movie that makes you feel somewhat better about your own [perceived] lousy life:

The Royal Tenenbaums
High Fidelity
The Professional
Garden State (love!)

The ones I'm always going back to:

Ever After
Wives & Daughters
Where the Heart Is
The Wedding Singer
A Christmas Story (but only during the holidays)
Beauty & The Beast

OMG! I LOVE "Where the Heart Is"!! I watched it EVERY time it came on HBO, then the Oxygen channel got it and played it every weekend for like 3 months. After that...I went out and found the DVD. I call it the "Wal-mart baby movie." I'm always quoting it too.

"I don't know...Pez, Twinkie...one of 'em"

BTW, High Fidelity is one of my "Top 10" favorite novels. Nick Hornby is so brilliant. I can't wait for his next novel!!

I LOVE Double Jeopardy, Along came a Spider, and Kiss the Girls. As you can tell, I like Ashley Judd

My favorite animated movie is Shrek...I could watch it over and over and over and over and over....

Funny, I'd watch all of those movies for Morgan Freeman! There's just something soothing/comforting about his voice. I'm with you, though, I think Ashley Judd is wonderful. I think she's such a beautiful woman...above so many of the other actresses of today. If only she'd work more...
