Actually I had no clue how to sew until this. The Duvet cover and the Dust Ruffle were 90% hand sewn (it took HOURS AND HOURS) Then I got frustrated and bought a sewing machine to finish, which i'd also never used before. I started by knowing what fabric colors I wanted, and the basic type of fabric I was going to use (Silk Dupioni, I wanted the irridescence) then I drew a simple outline of how I wanted it to look. I used my old comforter as a pattern for the size (queen size oversized) and cut and pinned everything together, when hand sewing I used the pins as a guide. I would line the pin up with the line I was going o sew then sew over the pin to keep my stitches small and straight and even. I removed the pins one by one while machine sewing though because they can damage the needle.
