Oh no...no, no, no.....this is horrible :(

Something happened to my computer....I don't know what, my dad said he was cleaning spyware.....he had to reinstall windows and it scrubbed my documents.

I lost everything

Every project, every video file, every document, journal entry, article. All my schoolwork, music, everything. Every picture of the kittens.

I've been crying for over an hour. I'm devasted and heartbroken. It's just so awful......I can't believe this happened.

Oh goodness! Have you tried any sort of system restore? I really don't know a whole lot about computers (except that they always delete what you want to keep while keeping what you were trying to get rid of).

You don't have any copies of the files you need on a disk or anything? Its really the worst feeling every to realize everything is just...gone.

I really hope you find a way to get back at least some of the files. Good luck!

We're still working on it. My dad thinks they might be around here.....somewhere.

I spent years meticulously organizing these files and keeping my system clean. This computer fits...used to fit...me like a glove. Never had any problems. I honestly don't know what he did...

And the digital camera is old and saved a limited number of pictures per floppy. We'd just transfer the photos, clean the floppies out, and use them again. But hindsight is 20/20...

What was he using to clean spyware? Anything to clean spyware, such as SpyBot wouldn't completely delete everything from your computer. Sounds like if everythings deleted, the virus did it! I bet your dad feels bad. Hopefully it's fixable and you get everything back!!

Have XP? Try a system restore if it's on. I always save everything on CD in case of problems. Hope you can get it back!

Ohhhhh, that's awful! I think when you have to reinstall the OS, you have two options: one to do a clean install and the other to just install it again on top of the old operating system. Do you know which option he chose?

A side note, you could also get a second hard drive and just set up a back-up system to copy everything to the other drive like once a week. It's amazing how cheap hard drives are getting these days!

I don't know guys....I think it's really gone.

My dad's pretty tech saavy and we have searched every corner of this harddrive. I didn't have system restore enabled, nor did I save my files in a folder seperate from the OS (two things I wished I had known about earlier)

Oh no, this is awful! Do you have any friends who're whizzes with computers? I had a friend who lost everything, but knew a guy was somehow able to get the majority of it back. Maybe there is still hope. I can certainly sympathize with you though - it's a horrible thing to loose all that - the exact same thing happened to me before, only my step dad di it on purpose .

I know how you feel. I lost a lot of stuff on my old computer & my brother didn't even tell me if I wanted anything on it & deleted everything . Now I know that I try to keep things on CD, thank goodness for CD Writers! I hope you get your stuff back somehow.

Emily, I'm so sorry that has happened. I know you must be very upset. I hope some sort of computer miracle happens, and you get everything back.
