wat do you mean re-skin? New heads aren't that expensive, Remo cs black dot are the best. Depends on how many drums, I haven't played in about 15 years but long to buy another kit someday

I'm not really sure; I'm just passing along info that was mentioned to me. His dad has a basic drum setup (kit?). I don't know how many drums. I'll have to ask the bf.

If it's new heads that he's referring to, about how much per drum can we expect?

Drummers

My partner is a drummer. In UK you could expect to pay £15 - £25 for a new drum skin, depending on the quality and size.
On a standard kit you'd have bass, snare and probably 2 or 3 tom-toms.
So it shouldn't be hugely expensive, unless things are v.different in US!
Now if you had to replace some symbols, that could be expensive

I heard that, I've paid as much as several hundred for a good cymbal.

...heads are really cheap, but I have no idea how much they are these days.

www.musiciansfriend.com

has some pretty good prices on drum heads unless you can find them cheaper locally. I like to use Remo Pinstripe heads.
