For those of us who have, or have had cell phone service with T-Mobile USA in the past two years, it may be time to monitor our credit reports, vigilant of any sign of identity theft.
A hacker got access to the customer database of T-Mobile, stealing personal information such as names, addresses, social security numbers, SIM card #, phone IMEI #, and passwords for website account access. The hacking spree lasted for about two years. The worst part: it looks like the guy has been offered a job as security consultant! Crime does pay.
Apparently, it's either the job or the jail, but not both. (grrr)
The same source also offers an explanation for the secrecy surrounding the case: the Secret Service, the source says, has offered to put the hacker to work, pleading him out to a single felony, then enlisting him to catch other computer criminals in the same manner in which he himself was caught.
