Local Shelter burned down overnight ......

I am just Heartsick.........The Chippewa Falls Humane Association
has burned down overnight killing estimate of 75 cats and dogs.
I have not heard the full story on the news yet.

Buddy was from that shelter....Buddy is the foster dog that I took care of for 7 weeks before he killed my Bosco kitty.
I am heartsick for the loss of all the animals....but something about Buddy having to die like that is making me really feel sick!
I have had mixed feeling about Buddy....but I was never mad at him for what happened. Oh I just want to cry thinking of all the animals having to die by fire......how heartwrenching!

Oh, Dawn, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm sure you do have mixed emotions right now. Just to be clear, was Buddy at the shelter when this happened - or are you just thinking about "what if" Buddy was there?

I know you will always miss Bosco, but that you would never wish any harm on Buddy. This is a terrible, terrible thing. I'm so sad for ALL of those animals.

I got email from Sara....she is a volunteer friend of mine at another local shelter....she said that 12 dogs survived and she will find out if Buddy is safe. Buddy was still up for adoption last week...I check every week.
He will be a very difficult dog to place because he has killed a cat.
The thing is.......he is one of the best dogs I had ever met.
Wonderful in the home and with children....simply calm and awesome.
What can he say for himself......he hates cats!

That's so terrible. The shelter I used to volunteer at caught fire too (something to do with the dryer...) Luckily they caught it in time and were able to get the animals out, but the shelter was closed for months.

I am so, so sorry that this has happened

That's a big fear of mine...a year or two ago, one of the local vet hospitals burned down, though they managed to get all the overnight patients out safely, the building was a total loss.

Animal shelters are often targets for vandalism, robbery, and arson, either by people with a grudge or kids looking for something to do. Plus, they're often working with ancient commercial dryers donated by laundromats and overworked heating/electrical systems, so the danger of accidental fire is always there.

It's very sad...I'm sorry to hear about this, Dawn.

I will have to wait until the News to hear the full story.
Sara wont be back online anymore....she is an accountant (tax season)

She did tell me earlier that they have already found some dogs at large.
Running around....so hopefully more dogs escaped then they initially thought......but the poor cats!!!!!!
