My new aquarium!

I found a used aquarium at a rummage sale a few weeks ago. It was a 29gal and included the tank, stand, heaters and some other misc supplies for $25. No hood though.

I finally got it set up this weekend, and here's what it looks like now.

a closeup:

I haven't added any fish yet. I am going to be gone for a couple weeks so I wouldn't be able to monitor them and do water changes, so I think I'm going to try to do a fishless cycle while I'm away. I also still need to get a hood since it didn't come with one.

I've got some platies in a 10gal that I'll probably eventually transfer to the new one. Any suggestions on what other fish I could keep with them?

Great find!! That is a nice looking tank. We found our 75gal for $50 at a local pet store.

Let us know when you get some fishies!! I would say african cichlids cause thats what I have and love em. If you do decide to go that route def. read up on them.

I looked into maybe having cichlids, but I think they'll probably get too big for that tank, and I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.

I've been thinking about angels, though. Has anyone ever kept angelfish?
I would like to keep a couple species of fish. I'd like to be able to include the platies I currently have in my 10 gal, but if I can't find any suitable tankmates that I like, then they can stay where they're at.
I am also considering gouramis, but I'm having a hard time finding any good information on them.

I started cycling the tank today though. Should be ready for fish in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!

I have kept Angels for years. They prefer a DEEP tank as they grow quite tall. I am now into saltwater as it is sooooooo much easier to maintain than tropicals. You NEVER have to vac the bottom or anything. It is completely self cleaning. All we do is monitor the SG levels (salinity) and do water changes once in awhile! The live rock and sand keep it clean. I'll post pics sometime! My husband had a 1000 gallon marine tank when I met him and I had three tropicals. Now we have 4 marine tanks! If you want to join a fish forum, that's the best way to learn.
