Plant help, please!

This is a plant from my mom's funeral that my dad has at his home. It had been doing so well but for some reason it really started deteriorating. When I was home last weekend, dad asked for my help. He tried repotting it but is at a loss for what else to do. I can't even remember the name of the plant.

Please help me save this plant!

Tina

The soil looks WAY too wet.

It also has signs of sclerosis (iron deficiency).

How do you know?

The soil he potted it in has that white stuff in it... and ignore the outside of the pot. It's a old one. That white ring isn't from this plant.

It's possible that the pot is infected with a fungus. It is almost impossible to get this out of a clay pot and it will attack the roots of anything planted in it. You may want to try a new pot, and not water so much. Also, these plants do not like direct sun...I have one and it gets some indirect sun. I've had it for about 15 years, seperated and re-potted - given away most of it because it is taking over my house! AND...I kill almost every other plant I get my hands on.

The leaves were yellowing with dark veins. There are brown edges of the leaf. There are not many active meristem (leaf buds) and the newer leaves seem to be stunted.
