Not getting my christmas on

For some reason I can't even force myself into being the least bit interested in the holidays this year. I even found myself being annoyed by the volunteers doing the fundraising drives outside the stores. I've done my decorating, and played some christmas music....and it just all feels totally artificial. Does anyone else feel anything like this...or am I just becoming a crotchity old man?

My husband and I don't even put up a Christmas tree or decorations. I guess that stopped after his dad died and his mom had a stroke and went to live near Sacramento with my husband's sister. We have no relatives here, so to us it's just another day, same with the other holiday's. We usually take our tandem and go out for a ride and then find some place open (hopefully) for lunch. I have never been a "people" person anyway so parties and crowds don't interest me. Go out and enjoy whatever it is you like to do and don't let other people frown on you.

Hey Scrooge... eerr... I mean Mike. Maybe a present will cheer you up .

Ive actually had years where Ive felt that way. For me I just needed to slow things down get away from the commercialism of it all. I like to think about how magical it was when I was a kid and watch my young nieces and nephews get excited about it. I think if you just chill out a little and take in the magical and spiritual part of it all you can get that feeling back.

I totally get you. Last year me and my boyfriend decided not to buy people presents, because like BC, we were fed up of the consumerism of it all. Instead we bought the gifts from Oxfam, so my mum got a goat, my brother a toilet, and my boyfriend got some school books! These gifts get given to a community or family in a third world country...great idea! This christmas we are going away to Amsterdam for the week before...just to get away from the shopping crowds, christmas music etc. I'm all for a great christmas, and I'm not religious, but we are definatley losing sight of what it's about...and for me it's about appreciating your loved ones, and spending quality time with them away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

oh yeah I am there!! My husband and I have been separated for months and decided awhile ago to get divorced. October was hard enough with thanksgiving....but with december I have absolutely no interest in christmas at all. Presents have been bought and wrapped. I am running out of town so I can avoid a family christmas, I am going to friends that aren't really into it either. NOTHING will be decorated in my house (I only have kitties not kids)

I guess I have a reason for lack of enthusiasm? Bah humbug says me!!

(it doesn't help that our wedding anniversary is a few days after christmas)

I've got all my shopping done -- we did shopping when Erik was here, and I did the rest on the internet (packages arriving every day). It won't truly feel like Christmas until it starts snowing.

I'm very excited for it because it means a long time with Erik -- he comes home, we visit my family in Cleveland, and we're doing New Years together this year, too. No decorations here either -- I don't see a point just for myself.

Hopefully you'll get in the spirit.

Yeah I don't care much anymore. I just decorate our tropical plant with a few ornaments, put up stockings and hand out a few presents. I don't go crazy running store to store stressing myself out. It's not worth it. I am not a religious person but really the holiday has gotten way out of hand and no where close to its meaning. It's totally commercialized and it makes me sick.

I am totally in the same boat this year. I do not want to do anything or see anyone. I have about had it with christmas music and decorations. I have tried to get into the spirit and decorate a little but its not working.

Ever since my sister died 2 years ago (she was 23) and we enjoyed christmas it has not been the same.

I feel like a I am forced to go along with the holiday.
