are the auto-replies down?

I haven't gotten any emails telling me of replies to posts. If I check a post it has the "stop watching this topic" button, so it looks like I am supposed to be getting replies

You have been hit by the phpBB sporatic email notification gremlin. Welcome to the club. I've been having this problem for several months. There is no known fix. However, I've been able to make it go away for a while by changing my email address.

Sorry, but I really don't think that's it.

Point 1 - I've been having the problem since before this virus.

Point 2 - the virus slows down email delivery of legitimate emails as infected emails are filtered by email hosts.

Point 3 - it doesn't explain the sporatic nature of why email notifications of new posts in some threads are received and some aren't. i.e. some threads to which I've subscribed I haven't gotten any notifications, and some to which I've subscribed I've gotten them all.

Point 4 - I'm not having the problem with a vBulletin board I'm on.

Point 5 - I am having the problem with another phpBB board I'm on.

When I first started having this problem, I browsed through threads about email notification problems in the phpBB forum. There seemed to be quite a few on this situation. My previous comment about a phpBB gremlin came from one of those threads.

Naw....it's not the Sober virus.

Well, ironically I got a reply to this thread, but not to others I've posted on.
It does seem rather sporatic. I've gotten other non-cat forum mail though. I'm not on any other phpBB boards though, so I'm not sure if it would be the same there.

Just to make it clear to those experiencing problems: if you're getting some and missing some, then you're experiencing the "gremlin". If you're getting everything, but just getting it later than usual, then it's probably the virus problem mentioned above. (But don't worry--it's not you that has the virus.) If you're not getting ANY notifications, then you've probably get an email hosting issue which might be solved by changing your email address to a different account.

Clear as mud? I totally confused everybody?
