My sister's new doggie

Isn't he the cutest!!?? His name is Indiana (Indie for short). My brother-in-law is a big Indiana Colts fan, so that's where the name came from.

He was only 10 weeks old when these pictures were taken. He is a Shih Tzu - I know I spelled that wrong. He is so cute! He runs around their apartment like a toy and is well on his way to being housebroken. He doesn't seem like a dog though, more like a big hamster...

EDIT : I forgot to mention how small he is! He is only 4 little pounds. Each of my cats are 12 - they could kick him across the room!

What a nice thing to put in a thread about a puppy

Indie is GORGEOUS! Shih-Tzu's are real little characters, where did they get him from?

Emma, that's what I thought too, but I didn't want to start a big *thing* over it. What happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

Anyways, they got him from a local breeder (they live in the Boston, MA area). They wanted a "hair" dog for a while, as bro-in-law is allergic. (He just about dies with my two cats anytime they come for a visit.) And they wanted a smaller dog, as they are in an apartment. The great thing is that bro-in-law works in a doggie-friendly office, so he can bring the pup to work with him every day!

I am soooooo relieved to hear he is not from a pet shop

He'll be a great companion and a lot of fun - he's a little cutie but I bet he'll be SO cheeky! Socialisation is the key at this point - get him out and about (in arms if he's not vaccinated yet) to get used to different sounds & smalls etc. And it would be a good idea to get him used to grooming now too. As far as I know, Shih Tzu's are not hypoallergenic - quite the opposite, as far as I am aware.

Look, I did say something nice at the end of that post. It was hard to get those words out. Right anyways I'm staying out of this thread.

He's wonderful! I'm a fan of Shih Tzu (and you did spell it right!!).

We've always had Lhasas growing up. People confuse the two a lot but Lhasas are much bigger and no where NEAR as nice! LOL

If you want a cuddly dog with a long coat and a schmooshed in face, get a Shih Tzu!
