any hommus eaters out there?

I buy hommus every week. I bought a big container of it last weekend and still have half of it left. I am eating it now and it tastes fine but I am really weird when it comes to old food. Anyone know how long this stuff will last once opened in the fridge?

My boyfriend says I wasted food. So I try and buy small amounts. For example I throw out sour cream after a week. If deli meat isn't used up in 4 days I won't eat it. Won't drink milk after 5 days.

I love hummus. I think it's a main staple in most vegetarian diets.

How long I'd keep it in my frigerator depends on the ingredients. If your product contains any preservatives, it's probably ok to eat after a week. If it just has the main ingredients but no preservatives (chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, salt), I probably wouldn't take the risk.

Well I just ate it....hopefully I will be alright. It does have preservatives. I would like to try and make my own at some point. Thanks for the advice.

MMM...I love that stuff! :-d
I do have to have it with a side of Beano, though.
Making your own hummus is easy and cheap, I do like to splurge a bit and get sesame oil for it, gives it more flavor, see?
As for food spoilage, I guess I like to live dangerously, if it smells ok I'll eat it.

If I remember correctly hummus tastes sort of sour, I can't explain myself correctly here, but you'll know when it's "off". I love the stuff, actually I love all middle eastern foods.

The word is a transliteration, so there really isn't a correct way to spell it in English. Hommus, hummus, hummous...it all works.

And the world's best falafel, right? (Yet another transliteration.)
