New Persian Kitten and old cat

Hi,

My husband and I got a second black male Persian kitten two weeks ago. Our first is a grey Persian female, Penny, who is a year old now. Our second kitten was very young when we got him. The vet put him at between a month and a month and a half. The guy who sold him to us said he was 6 weeks old. I just felt really sorry for the poor mite and the conditions he was kept under which is why I got him even though he looked really young. He was underfed and I could feel his bones sticking into my hands when I picked him up. Its been two weeks now and Zeus, even though he is very young, never really gave us any trouble except in one area. When he uses his litter box he doesnt cover up. We have kept him isolated with his own litter box and food for almost two weeks When we took him for his check up the vet said he had a cold and gave him a shot for it, He also had worms and given a tablet for it. Fast forward two weeks he seems a a happy kitten who is very active and zips around the house when he is let out of his room. He loves to cuddle and cries for attention if he are not paying attention to him. My problem with him is his litter issue. How do I get him to cover up after he uses the litter box?? Is there anyway to prevent him from using pennys litter box as he does this every chance he gets?

Initially Penny was not too fond of him and hissed at him whenever she saw him (since we kept him isolated). But after he got dewormed I started to let him out a little to socialise with her. After a couple of days of hissing and chasing each other they became friends (i think). She grooms him by licking his face and pays particular attention to his rear end. Is this normal? IS she doing it because he is a male kitten or is there some other reason for it?

Soon after this Penny started throwing up and had a vicious case of diarrhoea and loss of appetite. We suspected worms and took her into the vet who confirmed it. She was given tablet for the worms and shots to stop the vomiting and the diarrhoea. However the meds did not stop either problem so we took her in again. She was once again given shots and an oral liquid which the vet said would help stop her from vomitting. But that didnt help so we went back to the vet again. This time we got to the senior vet and he said he was convinced that she had a bad case of hair ball which is why she wasnt eating and had diarrhoea and vomiting. He too gave her shots for the diarrhoea and vomiting and also another shot to boost her appetite. He also gave us some tablets to help with the vomiting and diarrhoea so we didnt have to go back in. The diarrhoea and vomiting have stopped but she is still not eating. She hasnt had a bite to eat in four days now and actually gags when I bring her some food. I am not entirely convinced that her lack of appetite and the other symptoms have anything to do with a hair ball. She has had hairball problems before where she retches (horribly) and eventually expels it. I am taking her to the vet again today since shes still not eating but I am worried and confused. She has never had anything quite this serious before and it kills me every time I look at her. She is so listless and lethargic and I feel helpless. She is up to date on all her vaccines. She is a rather small cat and weighs in at 2.6 kg.

Is this a behavioral problem or a health issue? I have posted Pennys story in the health section as well.. If anyone here can help me understand what is going on I would be very grateful.
