First bone in meat try

Ok so my kitty (12 weeks) loves meat no problem there, thank goodness. So I was at the market and saw a good deal on Cornish game hens (small bird) and thought maybe we would give it a try. So I warmed a wing and some breast meat and put it down for him. He smelled it and licked it and tried it but he could not get the whole chew the thing to peaces part. He has no problem with meat cut up in smallish peaces. So this is the question should I try meat that is in bigger chunks first or keep up with the wings/small bone or something else entirely? Help please I need some advice!

Re: First bone in meat try

First I would do large pieces of just meat. Once he really learn to chew move onto the boned things. When you move onto bones make it easier as well, smash them with a mallet and cut the wing in half (where there is a gap in the bone from smashing) so the inside is exposed (skin can be hard to chew through). Hopefully that works for you, each cat has his own troubles when starting the raw diet, has he tried any organs yet? That can be difficult too.

Re: First bone in meat try

Yup he has been getting orgens mixed in with the meat chunks he realy has not had much of a problem with them but he is a kitten so I'm sure that helps a lot. I'm trying to move a way from the extra prosesing of the food, I'm not working right now so I have the time to do what ever is necessary but that could change at any time so i'm trying to simplify what I can.

Re: First bone in meat try

We have two foster kittens right now, and they moved from chopped up meat/etc to LARGE pieces (golfball sized) and then chicken necks! Never did wings, but they can mow chicken necks no problems. Our local pet store carries them in their freezer.
