Check my math please

I just wanted to have someone check my math on the amount of food that I need for my kitties per week.
Both cats are at a good weight of 13lbs so the amount of food needed per cat per day is

13lb * 16oz/lb * .03 of body weight = 6.25 oz/day/cat

Each cat will need

6.25oz/day * 7days = 43.75oz/week ~ 2.75lb/week

Broken down into Frankenprey percentages that is

43.75oz/week * .8 meaty meat = 35 oz/week of meaty meat
43.75oz/week * .1 bone = 4.375 oz/week of bone
43.75oz/week * .05 liver = 2.187 oz/week of liver
43.75oz/week * .05 secreting organs = 2.187 oz/week of secreting organs

Does this sound right?

Re: Check my math please

This makes my head hurt. Someone else will need to tell you if they think this looks "right." To me, this is making what is pretty simple way too complicated.

Every evening, I go to the freezer and look inside. "The cats had Cornish game hen yesterday," I tell myself, "So no bone for them tomorrow. The dogs haven't had bony stuff for a few days, though. And it's about time for liver."

So I pull out a baggie of liver, a chicken for the dogs, and a venison roast. I put it in a tray in the (turned-off) oven to thaw overnight. In the a.m. I portion it out and feed, put the cats' p.m. food in a baggie in the fridge, and that's that.

It is truly NOT necessary to worry this much.

Re: Check my math please

Thats what I got...though I styarted out with 6.24 ounces total but like that makes any differance

I don't feed a balanced meal everyday. Instead I feed a chicken drumstick per cat every three days...they are only fed 1x a day which I know isn't great but else they aren't fed at all.

I feed liver with the bone in meals every third day.
I feed kidney every third day with a no-bone meal. I figure it evens out overtime

I rounded up to make the math easier. Like you said, .01 oz really doesn't make much of a difference.

Hi, Raecarrow!

I totally got what you were doing and I checked your math - it's perfect!

Now you just have to go shopping.

Re: Check my math please

I'll do that when my financial situation is slightly better (i.e. when I get my security deposit from my last place back) I'm just trying to do my research. I'm going to start canvasing local butcher shops soon to see if I can get some free/cheap tidbits!
