After my first blunder with starting to feed chicken gizzards and hearts, I followed the advice of several experienced people and took several huge steps back.
Today I decided to thaw some chicken thighs to feed. I deboned and skinned one of the thighs, cut the meat into pieces about the size of my pinky finger (to the first knuckle), took half of the resulting meat and mixed it with half a 5.5 oz can of my kitties normal food and fed half of that to each of them. I half expected my cats to lick the wet food from around the bits of meat but they both dug right in with more gusto then I saw one morning when I fell asleep without giving them their dinner . I will be doing the same thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully I will have them eating plain old meat before the rest of my canned food runs out. (I have enough to get me to the end of the month if I was just feeding canned). I will have to take some video of my love bugs digging in to their dinner tomorrow.
Fed bigger chunks (as big as thumb to first knuckle) and kitties ate it right up. YAY! Teddy even tried to swipe some from Leo after he finished his share.
Super! Yeah, you have to watch that. My Lincoln eats at a brisk but civilized pace, but Calvin practically bolts his and then hovers over Lincoln. If Linc drops a piece, Calvin is right there. So I watch, and when I see Calvin is done I scoop him up and toss him in w/ Jonah for 10 min. so Lincoln can finish.
Glad to hear it's going well! Once they catch on, most cats are ALL about it.
