Worried about organs

So I recently figured out I have been drastically under feeding organ, I guess I didn't realize how large one ounce really was. so I've chopped all my organs into 1 ounce pieces. I then chopped those into 7 pieces.

Here's the problem, Willie HATES organ, he will not eat it (especially liver, chicken or beef). I had been making holes in his meat and hiding small pieces of organ in the meat but with the amount I need to feed him there is no way I can hide all that organ in there. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get him to eat it?

Re: Worried about organs

Its not particularly fun or attractive to do but chicken liver can be smashed into a paste like consistency.Possibly other organs too. They may eat it that way. If not then you can sprinkle some salmon oil on it which may entice them to lick it up. Or add a tiny bit of water to your meat to make a kind of blood/meat juice slurry and pour onto the liver. I have 1.5 cats (one sometimes decides he doesn't like it) that are not too fond of beef kidney. If I cut them small enough, 60% of the time they will eat it.

You could also try sprinkling some some of Whole Life's freeze-dried meat treats on the kidney. This is what I've been doing since I started on raw whenever someone puts on their "it's not good enough for me" act. So far, it's worked like a charm!

Stella and Chewy's also makes these.

Good luck!

Re: Worried about organs

All my cats love organs of all kinds so I haven't had to do this myself, but one of the suggestions often made on the rawfeeding forum is to LIGHTLY sear it -- just the outside of the meat. This warms it and brings out the flavor, as well as improving the consistency. Once your kitty is used to it, gradually stop the searing.

Re: Worried about organs

Jack and Harley hated organs and at first I had to basically cook liver to get them to eat it--dont mind kidney as much. Well first I regret ever starting cooking it for them--I tried to do it less and less and it didnt work.

I figured that if I made the pieces teeny tiny they would stick to the bigger meat chunks and they wouldn't even notice and they don't. I feed about .2 ounces both of liver and kidney a day and there are easily 10-12 pieces total of organ. I cut it small!!!! I am not stressed about the chewing of that just it getting into them. They never leave a thing on their plates now.
