We have a problem!

I convinced my mom to let nibbler try some raw, so we gave him some boneless chicken thigh(he is still eating canned for now).

He wouldn't eat it, he like ate a little bit of it. But he didn't eat more than a bite, I think he would have eaten it if I had cut it up, so I will try again tommorow.

Should I 'bribe' him, with some can food? I think I am going to try again tomorrow, but cut it into a few peices. And slowly stop cutting it up, so he can build up jaw strength.

Re: We have a problem!

I am new here, but I can share my experience.

When I let my cats try raw, I cut a piece of chicken when I was preparing dinner. About 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch piece. Both of them licked it and took it away and ran across the room chasing each other trying to get the piece from each others mouth. I think small size does help introducing, so they can chew in their mouths without anything hanging.

Re: We have a problem!

Lots of help transitioning here:

http://www.rawfedcats.org/practicalguide.htm

Cat food is MUCH smellier than raw meat, and cats weaned to commercial food just think that's what food IS. It takes time for them to change their ways. Additionally, cats fed kibble or canned have atrophied jaw muscles--even boneless meat takes more muscle strength than they are used to. Takes time for them to build up strength.

Re: We have a problem!

Thanks guys, a few seconds ago. I gave him a peice of chicken, and he's eating it right now. I hope he finishes it!
