Shrimp - in the shell or out?

A friend has given me some whole, in-the-shell shrimp (including heads, tails, and legs) from last year's harvest. There is some freezer burn on the smaller shrimp, so they'll be going to the cats (VERY high in taurine). My question is this - should I feed this raw shrimp in or out of the shell? Remove the heads and tails or leave them on? Are shrimp shells nutritionally equivalent to bone?

Re: Shrimp - in the shell or out?

Make REALLY sure that they were not soaked in brine prior to freezing. Some shrimp can be absurdly high sodium for this reason and make cats sick.

I would give only a small amount at a time --dole them out over time, in other words. Not to much at once. I would probaby just toss them down whole and see what they make of them.

If possible, get fresh prawns from the supermarket instead.
Mine absolutely adores a prawn or two per week, they're perfectly safe
I even dehydrate some of mine for them.

A picture of my dehydrated raw prawns that they goes meowfully insane about.
