Not liking it?

I started my 14 week old kitten on raw about 1-2 weeks ago. Up until 2 days ago he was eating it like a little piglet. He LOVED chicken..now he wont touch it. Beef, he will still eat but takes his time.

Is there a reason for this? I really want to keep him on raw but I also dont like playing the lets bribe you to eat game. I have tried liver sprinkles on top of the chicken as well. Nothing. Could he be teething? Maybe thats why he wont eat like he used to?

I know next to nothing about the raw diet but I do know that my cats like variety when it comes to wet food - if I feed one flavor or brand continuously they stop eating it and demand something new. I think they get bored on the same flavor - imagine if you had to eat all steaks every day every meal - wouldn't you get bored too? *smiles*

I misunderstood what you wrote - I thought when you said he ate chicken that's all he ate besides the beef - sorry!

Thats okay . I am just wondering if it could be him teething. Maybe they are sore and its turning him off of eating. I wont give up tho, I want my kitten to be a raw fed cat

I haven't trained a young kitten to eat raw myself, except for Lacey, but she's 7 months already so her teeth are not an issue anymore. I know Azalia every now and again refuses to eat liver. She just really doesn't like it too much, but for the most part, she will eat it if hungry enough. Sometimes, she just won't even touch the liver at all...specially if it's dense liver like beef.

It could be teething, I mean the timing matches. I found this on the net:

"Adult kitten teething usually occurs between the third and the sixth months of life; the period is pretty tense for the animals, so don't be surprised to be bitten accidentally by your pet. A good way to alleviate the pressure in the gums is to give the something hard to chew on: a rubber or a plastic toy for instance. If one of your kids' toys doesn't do for the matter, you can always turn to special kitten teething toys.

There is a whole range of nasty symptoms that are frequently reported during the kitten teething period; the pet may experience difficulty to swallow or it may even refuse food. The best thing to do under the circumstances is to contact the immediately and also turn to a powder or a gel to apply on the gums of the animal in order to provide relief and comfort."

I would give it a week or so (as long as she is eating something) and if it's teething, she will be very hungry on some days, and other days, not so much...she will also be very bite-y at other times. Lacey is still very mouthy still and she just lost her last baby tooth.

It could be that your kitten is not growing at the moment and doesn't need the extra food to put towards that. Malachi did that for a week and is back to eating 10 ounces of raw a day. However he went through a "I will only eat chicken fat" phase at the same time.

Yeah, the only thing I noticed was last night for whatever reason at 3am he had the muddy poos so bad none hit the litter, was all stuck to his back side, legs and tail so I have to bath him. Other then that hes been really doing well on raw.

I will keep trying to get him to eat . He is eating..just not as much and wont touch chicken anymore. Cats can be so picky lol
