Surprisingly, things seem to be going good with the chicken so far. They get better each day! I'm not feeding it as a sole protein source, I'm only adding about a 1/2 pound meat, skin, and fat (cubed small) to 2 1/2 lbs of rabbit meat, and they love it! They are fluffy, their coats have shine, and the scratching lessons each day, it's really very little now. I'm using chicken thighs, and I'm surprised how lean the ones I bought are, especially for store bought. My only problem has been that the cats are staticy, especially the two long haired moos, so I assume that means they are still not getting enough fat, and I started adding in a bit of grated beef suet yesterday. So far so good with that, usually I can see some type of change within a day or two if something is going to react negatively with them. Lucy is being a complete diva, and eats it very slowly! But, she's eating it. I have to make a batch tomorrow, so I'll add it into the mix, and she should be fine that way since I'm not adding alot.
They also got a treat today...........gizzards, one each, and in the morning I gave them a tiny bit of egg yolk to see what they'd do with it. Lucy, of course, ate neither of them, but I nearly fell off my chair when Patches, the one who is extremely finicky about everything, ate both of them!!!!! I have to cut everything up for her tiny because of her bad teeth, but she ate everything I gave her today!! I'm shocked!
So I guess I can conclude that everything processed needs to be avoided, as well as fish, and lamb. This is awesome! I am so happy the chicken is working, and that they like it! It opens up so many more options for us!
