Atlas flips over Frankenprey?

Remember back when he was a kitten and we thought it was really cute when he growled over his raw tidbits? He hadn't done it in ages, they've been eating side by side for like 6 months, canned and raw, and he's exhibited none of that behavior whatsoever.

Until....15 minutes ago, when I gave him his first chicken neck in a while (we've been on canned while we sort out a supply issue)--he suddenly started growling, hissing, and flipping out, all the while with the meat in his mouth, and then ran to the living room, evaded me and made it all the way downstairs and dropped his big meaty bloody chicken neck on the RUG. He never growled at me, but as soon as we brought him back up to the kitchen and put him on the opposite side from Wicket, who the whole while is looking at him like "WTF is your problem, you weirdo?" and munching merrily on his own food, he started growling again and wouldn't eat, just sat there flipping out until we locked him in the bathroom with his food.

WTH? Why would he suddenly flip like that? They still sleep together, eat together, play together and have never had any issues...I'm at a loss!

It was really funny to watch but we're in a rental and there is NO way I can have him dragging his frankenprey all over the house....they're light colored carpets!

It's a Gollum thing, it's something so good that he fears that someone will steal it from him.

But why doesn't he do it all the time? Why just this once? I'm confused. He didn't even finish it, the little monster.....

You said in your post you'd been on canned a while? The hissing has calmed down while doing raw every day, then you stopped, now you started again... is this correct?

Sounds pretty normal. Try getting him a small carrier to eat in, he will feel much more secure. My one cat Jasper hisses at ANYTHING and EVERYTHING when he eats raw, he MUST be (before we used crates) above and away from everyone else (ex. top of a cat tree) and now he is in a wire crate we cover with a blanket so he is completely alone. He stops growling now, but if someone walks by his kennel at the front (the only side NOT covered in a blanket) he growls.

You'll just have to find a place that works well for him (or wait it out - since he calmed down last time when he realized the raw supply wouldn't stop). It may take a while longer than last time though, since he now knows it's POSSIBLE for the raw to stop... it will make it all the more high value.

Hah, that's a good point! They've continued to have chicken necks and whole quail while we feed canned regularly but they aren't getting all-raw now and haven't for a couple of weeks. Maybe he is expressing his fear that we'll take it away again!

Even when he hissed before, he never took it to this length--running away from humans as well as being (cutely) aggressive with Wicket. The funny thing is, Wicket has absolutely no interest in his food, he's the kind of cat to let everyone else eat first, even strangers!
