RIP Whiskas fishy pouches!

So, today I made up a fresh of my RAW mix. I've gotten all of the meat components introduced now at their correct ratios and will start adding in the supplements slowly this week. This morning I decided to just see what would happen if I simply left the fishy pouch out instead of slowly weaning it out of the mix. Well, Effie (she with little sense of smell) Cococ (Ms GREEEDY guts) and Tyrion (FOOD???FOOD??? WHERE"S THE FOOD????) scoffed it down without a second glance!!! I am AMAZED that Effie did as if it doesn't smell of fish (in the past) she won't even consider it!
Lisbeth (Miss I'm a suspicious kitteh ....WHAT HAVE YOU DONE mom?) turned her nose up at it so I sprinkled a tiny bit of fine parmesan on it. After she'd been out to the loo and had had a chance to ponder the mysteries of evolving food, she came in and ate the lot!!! YIPPEEEEEEE.

No more Whiskas!!!!!

Coco, Tyrion and Lisbeth are all also eating some chunks. Effie was very confused by them at first but I have discovered that if I put an extra chunk or two in the kitten's food bowl (different feeding station to hers) and let her 'sneak' up onto the bench once the kittens are finished - whilst I'm 'not looking,' she will eat the chunks. Go Effie!!!!!!

The recipe I'm working on is an amalgamation of one off Wikihow.com - Make Raw Cat Food, and the recipe on CatInfo.org. The two are very similar. I've fiddled with the type of meat used to that which is easily available to me.

My take on it works on a ratio of around 80% muscle meat, 10%bone, 5%liver & 5% kidney.

The muscle meat I use is a mix of beef (minced & heart), chicken (wing & gizzard), the bone is chicken (wings & necks) liver % kidney varies (sheep, lamb, beef, chicken). I use both minced and some chunked.

So, my recipe as it currently stands is as follows. I'm still tweaking and working on it ...

Ground beef 400gms
Chunked beef 100gms
Ground heart 200gms
Ground Chicken wings 200gms (rough estimate = 100gms bone, 100gms muscle)
Liver 50gms
Kidney 50gms

Additives -
1 Egg
100-160ml water
1.5 capsules Raw Glandular powder (we don't have mad cow over here)
3000mg fish oil
40mg Vit B powder
Approx 266IU Vit E powder
1,333mg Taurine (for added insurance)

In the maybe basket sits -
1 tsp psyllium powder
1/3 tsp Kelp powder - I'll wait until my glandular powder arrives and I can see how much iodine it contains before I decide to add this.

Presently this quantity feeds my four for around 2 days = 500gms between the four of them / day. I'm also still fiddling with quantities per cat for optimal weight etc.

Once I'm happy with the recipe etc I'll make it in bigger batches, mincing everything on the day and freezing in the required daily amounts.

I'd appreciate any feedback anyone has ...
