Raw variety...

So as you most of you probably know, my Charli is raw fed; she has now been on entirely raw for a couple of months, she will be 8 months old next Tues, Oct. 14. Her variety is a bit limited, but this is what she eats, and I'm just checking with those who have more experience with raw to see she is getting what she needs. She loves chicken the best, so she gets whole chicken coarse ground including organs and bones, she also gets added to that chicken thighs in chunks for additional chewing. She eats turkey thighs(chunked). She eats whole rabbit meat, bones, organs. (ground) She has a chicken neck just about every day, she LOVES them. I'm still hinky about giving her the whole thing, so I'm still smashing with a mallet but she gets a good crunchy chew out of it, I just don't have to worry about her choking. She won't touch beef, pork, veal no matter how I try to disguise it. I do supplement her food with Alnutrin, which you can read about here: A Guide To A Balanced, Homemade Cat Food - Alnutrin Supplements

I also give her an occasional piece of raw wild caught salmon. By occasional it's been every other week or so. I also give her salmon oil in her meals. She also gets probiotics in her meals now a few times a week, just for my peace of mind more than anything else.

Would welcome thoughts/opinions from those who are experienced raw feeders, just want to be sure my little furbaby has everything she needs.

Thanks!

I just hope the "raw salmon" you give her is frozen first, otherwise there is the potential risk for parasite infection.

Seafood Health Facts: Making Smart Choices

If your Charli doesn't like red meats, you can still try different types of fowl since that is what she seems to prefer. You may find cornish hens, duck, partridge, quail, or even pheasant or small chick, for example. I'd try your local butcher (since they'd know specifically more about their sourcing), and then perhaps your local supermarket or Asian grocery for exotic meats/organs. I know I need to expand my cats proteins, too. Currently, they're on Chicken/Turkey/Venison/Rabbit/Duck. I've tried Lamb, and it's a no-go, but may stick to some beef or cornish hens and maybe even some crickets as snacks!

Yes, I freeze the salmon first, I freeze everything, actually, before feeding her. I buy a larger piece of salmon, cut it, freeze and use as needed. She won't eat duck, either, I forgot to mention that...silly kitty. We no longer have a "local butcher", which makes me crazy, so annoying. I get some meat for her at whole foods, I buy organic. I have tried to find Cornish hens there, but they don't have them, or haven't since I've been looking for them. I do get food from Hare Today, which is WONDERFUL, so maybe I'll get some quail or something from there to try; I'll browse the smaller birds that they carry, they pretty much have everything... I hadn't thought of crickets, she is a great fly catcher should one get in the house, she leaps and captures them mid air with her two front paws, it's pretty entertaining, but grosses me out that she then eats them...ick...I think I might have that same reaction with a cricket...gag gag...lol I'm a little hesitant to buy from the Asian grocery, I'm just concerned with the origin, etc. I was able to hide some beef with her chicken thigh chunks one time, but on the second go round it was left in the dish and everything else was gone...so, that was the end of the beef experiment.
