New to site

Hi all, I am new to the site, so I am posting here because I have to, but I hope someone can give some insight.

I have two shelter cats, Gunnar and Fiona. Gunnar is a year and a half, and Fiona is four months old. I got Gunnar back in August of 2016, and adopted Fi in May of this year. These are my first cats, and Gunnar was/is a beast when it comes to eating and his general appetite. I have never found a food he doesn't devour, though oddly enough he's quite particular about his treats. I had heard cats can be finicky so I figured he isn't a picky eater because, A. I feed them insanely expensive food, and B. he came from a shelter where they ate whatever was donated so he probably has an iron stomach,

Additionally, I have given him a variety of different foods since I have had him because I don't want him to get bored or develop an allergy. The parameters are that he eats grain free- whole ingredients (no 'natural flavors' etc). I am really obsessed with quality and country of origin when it comes to ingredients.

When I adopted Fiona, I put her on the same rotation as Gunnar because he does so well with it, and for the most part she is doing really well... except for when I feed her raw. I have tried Primal frozen- she pukes. Primal freeze-dried- she pukes. Vital Essentials freeze-dried- she pukes. It's crazy. She eats canned food with no problem- Fromm, Tiki Cat, Wild Calling mostly. But the minute I give her raw food in either thawed frozen nuggets or freeze dried, she vomits about 30 minutes after her meal, even when it's small quantities.

Oddly enough, she is obsessed with freeze dried minnow treats from Vital Cat and she never has issues with those... What gives? Does anyone else have a cat who can't handle raw food?

Just a couple days ago I started the transition of Turbo's diet from Wellness canned to Primal freeze-dried. She's not very picky generally, but I've tried before to move her on to other foods (she's eaten nothing but Wellness chicken formula since 10 wks), all with the result of her throwing up as you say, about 30 minutes later. In my case, the mistake was switching her over straight away, without a slow transition. Most cats' stomach can't handle that. Are you doing a slow transition? They say you should start by adding a little of the new food with the old. No more than 1/4 new, the rest old food. After 3 days or so, bring it up to about 50/50, and continue that pattern. After 7-10 days its usually fine to go 100% new. Turbo is 3 days in to this regimen, and she hasn't thrown up yet. However, it's so different than what she's been used to that she is eating less, for now. I think she's thinking it smells funny and doesn't yet trust it. Anyway, try this method if you aren't already. Oh, and Turbo never had a problem with Greenies dental treats when I started giving her those, so maybe dried things don't upset their stomachs as much as switching wet food.
