Unable to reach site

Hi,

I am unable to reach the forum from home.

My traceroute looks like:

1 <1 ms 3 ms <1 ms routerlogin.net [192.168.0.1]
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms brhm-core-2b-xe-807-0.network.virginmedia.net [81.108.33.25]
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 14 ms 14 ms 15 ms brhm-bb-1c-ae1-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.254.42.210]
6 * * * Request timed out.
7 19 ms 17 ms 18 ms bbr01.lon01.networklayer.com [195.66.225.183]
8 87 ms 84 ms 85 ms ae1.bbr02.tl01.nyc01.networklayer.com [50.97.18.204]
9 106 ms 111 ms 109 ms ae1.bbr01.eq01.chi01.networklayer.com [173.192.18.132]
10 126 ms 126 ms 127 ms ae20.bbr01.eq01.dal03.networklayer.com [173.192.18.136]
11 128 ms 130 ms 138 ms ae5.dar01.dal05.networklayer.com [173.192.18.215]

13 * * * Request timed out.
14 * * * Request timed out.
15 * * * Request timed out.

Someone else on the same ISP posted theirs, which differs at the end:

11 ae20.bbr01.eq01.dal03.networklayer.com (173.192.18.136) 139.550 ms 137.875 ms 143.608 ms
12 ae6.dar02.dal05.networklayer.com (50.97.18.193) 139.270 ms ae5.dar01.dal05.networklayer.com (173.192.18.215) 135.008 ms 136.022 ms
13 * po2.fcr04.sr03.dal05.networklayer.com (173.192.118.151) 139.391 ms *
14 ce.32.7e4b.ip4.static.sl-reverse.com (75.126.50.206) 137.721 ms 136.267 ms 138.027 ms

They went on to say:

You will note the differences are within the network of networklayer.com, which is this website's hosting provider.

The most likely reason for this sort of issue with a forum is that the forum's administrators have deliberately or accidentally configured their system to ignore connections from your specific IP address. I'm not saying this has happened here but it's the most likely explanation.

I suggest you email the site administrators with both your traceroute and mine and ask them whether your IP address is blocked.

Im wondering if this is indeed the case here?

Yes, I'm sure Admin is deliberately blocking your IP address. I mean, Swindon, after all.

I think it's very unlikely that your IP has been blocked. Some things you can try if you haven't already...

Log out and then back in.
Clear your cookies.
Reboot your computer.

Try those before we contact Administrator.

BTW I'd remove the IP addresses from the post... it's a bit dangerous to post your personal IP addy publicly. :{

Adelea,
LakotaWolf brings up a very important point!!
Now you'll probably need to PM a Moderator to get that removed!!

It started on Thursday if I recall right - my PC has been rebooted etc. a few times since.

It is still not working over my wired ethernet internet connection, but if I turn on my phones hotspot, and connect over wifi, I am able to connect.

The tracert using this connection is:

1 4 ms 2 ms 2 ms 172.20.10.1
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 320 ms 377 ms 358 ms 10.247.240.234
4 64 ms 58 ms 58 ms 10.111.227.222
5 60 ms 59 ms 58 ms 10.111.227.221
6 733 ms 50 ms 36 ms 10.111.227.82
7 195 ms 59 ms 58 ms 10.111.226.100
8 436 ms 947 ms 47 ms 149.254.195.234
9 68 ms 68 ms 69 ms 87.237.20.212
10 841 ms 348 ms 357 ms 87.237.20.85
11 66 ms 58 ms 58 ms bbr01.lon01.networklayer.com [195.66.225.183]
12 141 ms 136 ms 138 ms ae1.bbr02.tl01.nyc01.networklayer.com [50.97.18.204]
13 167 ms 162 ms 157 ms ae1.bbr01.eq01.chi01.networklayer.com [173.192.18.132]
14 165 ms 291 ms 176 ms ae20.bbr01.eq01.dal03.networklayer.com [173.192.18.136]
15 170 ms 182 ms 180 ms ae6.dar02.dal05.networklayer.com [50.97.18.193]
16 214 ms 179 ms 179 ms po2.fcr04.sr03.dal05.networklayer.com [173.192.118.151]
17 196 ms 189 ms 178 ms ce.32.7e4b.ip4.static.sl-reverse.com [75.126.50.206]

Trace complete.

So in both connections we have a common point:

ae20.bbr01.eq01.dal03.networklayer.com [173.192.18.136]

However, using my wired connection this then has a next hop of

ae5.dar01.dal05.networklayer.com

But using my cellphone, the next hop is

ae6.dar02.dal05.networklayer.com

So it looks to me like the ae20 router is doing something weird - for a given destination, it should route traffic the same - but it is instead routing with different routes.

Well that sounds like a problem with your internet provider. Cat Forum does not determine how the request is routed.
