Above the black bar and on the right, it says "Welcome *your name*" and below it, it says "notifications". I've clicked that to check for PMs. I also will get a little window that pops up saying I've got a PM, or I get an email notification. But I also think if you click on your name, anywhere it is in blue ... you get a drop-menu to select from?
I'm still learning, so I'll keep checking this topic for hints/tips better than mine!

As far as I can tell, there is no longer an outbox, so there's no way to tell someone has read your PM.

Actually there is.

1. Go to USER CP > Edit Options

2. Scroll down on the page until you reach the area for "Private Messaging" options.

3. Check off the box with the description "Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default."

4. Go to your main "Private Messages" area and you should see a drop down box at the top in the area called "Folder Controls". This is where you can access your record of sent messages.

As for confirmation of when and if the person has read the message, there is an option to check off when you are typing out a PM to another user. You have to scroll down below the text box area where the message is being typed. See attached image.
