Newbie here! Long time Cat lover! :P

Hey everyone. I'm new here. I had a Cat named"Kitty" for a long time, since 7th grade, (I"m now3 years out of college) Well, Kitty died last summer, and I thought it was about time to get a new Kitty. So my friend's cat had some kittens a while back, and I got one.

Here's my problem...I'm taking her to the vet in a couple of weeks to get her shots etc. But she came with alot of fleas! (Poor baby!)

So this is what I did, I hope it's okay for a kitten, I think she's alittle over a month old.

1. I bathed her in the sink with warm water and Dawn dish soap. I read it was safe for kittens. ( I hope it is) That's all I had, and i didn't want to give her a full on flea bath when she's still a baby.

2. I picked out the fleas afterwards with a comb and tweasers. I was very careful, poor baby stood still the entire time! It was literally, over an hour I was combing her fur and picking the fleas out.

3. I must have picked out 50 fleas by hand! Not to mention the ones that died in the bath! I couldn't beleive so many fleas could possibly be on such a small kitten, they weren't small either!

4. So here is my question...I don't think I got all of the fleas...when would it be safe to give her another bath? with the flea shampoo? without it?
Any tips?

Thank you!!!

Thank you!!!! I was scared when I first bathed my kitty, she looked like she was bleeding, she was driping a brownish color; that must be from all the fleas on her.

I'm giving her another bath tomorrow morning;

Thanks again!!!

What an absolute darling tortie kitty, she has the sweetest face! Poor baby, those nasty fleas were draining here. Bless you for bathing her.

Here's more information. There is also something you can get from a vet for kitty's over 6 wks to kill the fleas called Advantage. Be sure you clean the environment very well, as flea eggs can lie dormat for a year and then hatch out again. There is stuff (can't remember the name) that will kill the eggs and larva stage. Good luck!
