I was searching for a forum to discuss a few cat issues i'm having, and i'm happy to have found catforum.com!
I will humbly wait for activation before discussing some of my issues, but in the meantime, i guess i can address my biggest problem at the moment:
I have a young female cat named Sally who has begun her first few heat cycles. I've made an appointment to have her fixed next month. In the meantime, she's in heat and i've kept her in the house to avoid any "surprises". Unfortunately, yesterday as i was retrieving the mail she slipped between my legs and ran off. I spent 2 hours trying to find her until i gave up and figured there was little i could do except wait. Sure enough, around 6 hours later, i awoke from a nap to the sound of howling. In my yard were 3 cats (presumably male) and little Sally, waiting by the door to come in. I quickly brought her in and scattered the other cats.
My question is: am i doomed to having kittens? I have no way of determining whether the other cats are stray vs. merely neighbor's cats (or they're even male for that matter) though it's safe to assume they are.
I've been keeping an eye on Sally's behaviour and she seems unchanged. She's still howling, she's still got her behind in the air, tail to the side in the mating position. I'm assuming that if she were pregnant, her "heat" would go away. Since it hasn't... could Sally have escaped pregnancy?
If anybody has insight on this, i'd greatly appreciate it!
So that's it. I also enjoy discussing various aspects of cat behaviour so i look forward to doing that too.
