o.m.g.

Cali does this and it drives me crazy!!!!!! For some reason, that sound just sets me off. I can be asleep and that noise will wake me from a different room. I've read posts here that say it's because the grocery plastic bags are made with fish oil. Cali will lick anything plastic, not just grocery bags. When there's something I can't move away from her, I spray Bitter Apple on it. Works. Until she finds the next one. grrrrrr

My cat does this too. It's not just plastic bags, though. It's EVERYTHING. I asked my vet about it and he said that some cats just love to chew on everything. I don't know how old your cat is, but he said sometimes as they get older they outgrow it. For now, the only advice I can give is to keep the bags away from your cat as much as possible. If it's a really big problem, don't even bring them in the house.

Yeah, I can see/hear that the noise can become annoying.
I heard that the reason cats are so drawn to plastic is because they are made with meat gelatin of some sort. And that the noise it makes is reminescent of a mouse squeaking.
A word of caution: cats can get their necks and paws caught in the handles of the plastic bags. That happened to Ritz two years ago (plastic bags + 18 dozen eggs does not equal an omelet); she is just now getting over her fear of a bag with food in it. Though loves it when I "hide" a toy under a plastic bag which is placed on the carpet (handles cut off of course).

I have the same problem with rubber bands - I remember finding a massive hair ball with like 3 or 4 half digested rubber bands. Now I have to hide all of them in drawers but everyone once in a while I'll forget and the cat will be on it within minutes.

I had a cat that until he passed away at 12 years old chewed on anything plastic! He loved to hear his teeth go through the garbage bag in the kitchen! Just do you best to keep the plastics out of reach, it is very hard on their digestive system.
