My name is Angela and I'm new. I wanted to get to know more cat people. My cat, Trout, had a cancer scare last month. An old lump in his ear started to change shape and colour. Part of me wanted to just ignore it and hope it went away. Trout is 15 years old and I was afraid that any news was going to be bad.
The test came back positive for mast cell cancer, so they lopped off most of his left ear. I hadn't even thought it could have spread until the doctor said he was going to get an X-Ray. I lost a dog to cancer on the operating table when I was a kid and I wasn't prepared that our goodbye before the surgery was going to be the last one.
Everything turned out as good as it possibly could have. The cancer didn't spread, Trout's perfectly healthy everywhere else. As scared as I was, I was glad I acted fast and didn't hope it would just go away.
