Unhappy New to here and need advice on living with a deaf cat.

Just adopted 2yr old male cat and he is deaf. I live with my friend, her husband and their 5 year old daughter . I am home with Argus all day, so I would like to know how to not scare the poor thing like I did this morning. I felt so bad and I would also pass whatever information I get to the rest of the house. Please help me.Feeling bad in florida.

I don't have any advice for you, unfortunately, but there are surely other members here who have, or have had, a deaf cat. I hope someone will be able to help you out!

How did you scare him?

The general idea with a deaf kitty in the house is to not make sudden movements around them, don't approach from behind. Some people use laser pointers to get a deaf cats attention.

My aunt's deaf cat rode on the vacuum, she had another as well that went deaf in old age. The one born deaf hated men. Maybe he didn't like the floor vibrations men cause with their lead feet around the house.

That's so wonderful that you adopted a special needs kitty. Carmel has great suggestions as far as approaching him. Don't try to pet him when he doesn't see you, too. I hate it when someone sneaks up behind me and scares me so I can imagine what your little guy is feeling.
