G'day. I have a MaineCoon. He is old, roughly about 15 (He was a rescue cat). Over the last month or so I have noticed his left eye reflecting a red color instead of the usual green/yellow (Both his iris' are green). I did take him to the vet who did have a look and was told he had pinpoint cataracts in both eyes. But I cannot find anything regarding why that would make one eye reflect red instead of the usual color. I know for a fact 3 months ago it was reflecting the usual Green/Yellow. Can anyone explain to me why pinpoint cataracts would change the reflection color of one eye?

I haven't seen that before, but a quick search says perhaps a corneal ulcer. But you can't rely on the internet, it also says don't feed this cat after midnight, and you have to add Skrewball to it's diet. Oh, wait, that last one was for me, oops.

I have friends with MaineCoon cats and I really haven't seen this before. If you can afford it, I would definitely get a second opinion. But when you make the appointment, ask if you can send a picture so the vet can see what you're talking about. There's not much more frustrating than taking your cat in just to be told they don't know what it is.

I don't think it's the cataracts that cause the weird reflection. My cat has a pretty big cataract in one eye and the light reflects the same colour as the good one. I agree, it's best to get a second opinion, maybe even an eye specialist, if you can find one close to you.
