Got my raw patties today (we started with chicken--complete with bone & organ in 8 oz patties) and mackerel (raw, ground, skin, bone, everything) and will be ordering the beef and lamb patties as well. I picked up some chicken necks whole from the same people and we'll be supplementing some fresh raw chunks from the supermarket (whatever is going on sale) and whole quail from the local butcher along with quail eggs if we can get them to lower the overall percentage of bone (it's a bit higher in this raw food because it's designed for dogs). I gave them a mackerel "snack" this afternoon which they ate some, but not all of, and dinner tonight was about 3oz each of the chicken patties, and about a tsp of canned food mixed in to help them transition.

Question: how do you guys make your raw food "warm"? I put it in a ziploc and soaked it in warm water for a few minutes and the bag leaked a bit and the chicken turned to mush! We don't have a microwave so my only option is to warm it up in a bag......

Grats on making the switch! :D How did your kitties like what they've gotten so far?

As for warming the food, I really don't. I just take out a defrosted bag from the fridge and let it float in some water for a bit, until it's at room temperature. I know you said you didn't have a microwave, but you shouldn't microwave your cats food anyways...something about breaking down nutrients from the cooking. If you want to "warm" the food, I'd suggest a little bit warmer water (not hot though...again, you don't want to cook the food). I use freezer bags for my food, because they are stronger and I've never had had a problem with water leaking in when floating the bags.

Congrats! We are still transitioning, though Gozer is probably ready to go 100% raw. We are aiming for "Frankenprey".

I usually just give them their meat chunks still cold because they are so hungry! Sometimes I'll float the Baggies in some warm water if I have time.

I've been using warm water but I think I need to get better baggies because mine definitely do leak! Everything turns to mush (although the patties get mushy anyway). They don't seem to care overly much but it makes it harder to portion properly.

Yesterday we tried chicken necks, the kitten decimated his and Wicket tried a few pieces but bit off too large a piece and coughed it back up. He's getting the hang of it though and spent the rest of the time watching the kitten so I considered it a teaching meal. He's gigantic so he doesn't need the extra food where the kitten does and I always try new stuff before a regular meal so they're hungry but don't miss their regular meal...

I'm away from home for 24 hrs so I will see how their feeds with hubby go....
