The new change has (from my perspective) drastically reduced the usefulness of the "Active Topics" page but this can be corrected by 2 things:

1 - Show which subforum a topic is from (the title alone is not enough to give me sufficient info to decide to click)

2 - Show, and give the ability to go straight to a later page, multiple pages on multi page threads

Neither of these 2 things is currently happening on Active Topics page.

Thanks

I'm not an Admin, but I feel safe in answering that "Active Topics" would porbably never list the forum catagory or take you to a selection of pages to choose from. 'Active Topics' is just a home-page list showing visitors what the most active topics are, hoping to draw them further into investigating the forums.
Think of them like newspaper headlines.
Click on "New Posts" for the list of new posts in all forum catagories and click on the upside-down triangle of dots to take you to the first unread post of that topic. I just checked, and that feature works on the 'Active Topics' list, too.

It only works when people put sensible thread titles though. Something that a lot of people on every forum don't seem to want to bother with.

"HELP!" is not a useful thread title for example.

The main difference between Active Topics and New Posts is that we (i.e. myself) control the categories that the Active Topics pulls threads from to display in the list. The New Posts will just show a list of threads that have the newest posts.

Since the Active Topics displays on the main landing page, it's an important tool for us in terms of optimizing search engine results to display categories that are CAT related and not for example, off topic stuff.
