my kitten is roughly 3 and a half months old. he has been friendly up to this point but lately he has been aloof. I am worried about this because my cat at my family's place is extremely aloof and shy and I don't want this one to become like that too. He doesn't want to be held and will just lay near me, but at a distance. However, in the morning he will stick his head in my neck area and purr like mad and when I get home he is really whiney. Any way to make this cat into a lap cat? or is that even possible?

You can't make a cat a lapcat, but he's still young and they can change. My Punky was a year old when I adoped her and she wasn't interested in laps, she was always hanging around, but at a distance. Now-a-days she isn't necessary a snuggly lapcat, but she does sit on my lap from time to time.

He's not lethargic is he? And this isn't a sudden change in behavior is it? If so, you should see a vet as soon as possible.
