Wow, I always knew cats were skilled hunters but I was amazed by Barnaby's speed and reflexes.

There was a fly that got into the house and this was one of those flies that are so fast that they are hard to follow, even with your eyes. He followed it around the room for a bit and when it flew low enough he jumped up and actually caught it between his paws. Although he had it under his paw on the floor it managed to escape back up to the ceiling so I kept swinging at it to get it off the ceiling and high walls and once again it flew low enough that he was able to catch it between his paws. This time he sealed the deal by eating it (yuk).

Just surprised. I knew cats were fast but I didn't think they were that fast.

I know! It's amazing how much patience and skill they have. At this barn where I ride, there are two kittens there that have mastered the fly catching skills. They catch them with their mouths! And of course eat them, yuck!

My Marbles was really helpful in keeping the flies at bay during the summer months when I was Australia... He ate whatever that came into the apartment.... But I had to bring him up to the walls sometimes so that he could get to them... This cat of mine is not very quick and nimble like Barnaby!

Hehe, my sister-in-law's cat catches them between his paws like Mr. Miagi does with chopsticks in the Karate Kid. He thinks its fun to open his paws up and let it escape so that he can catch it again. Samhain loves flies too. You can tell when there is one in the house. She jumps onto something high and just listens for it and her ears go nutty, then when she figures out where it is, she leaps at it and jumps thru the air. She keeps doing it until the fly is weak enough to eat. I just love it when a fly is in the house hehe. I shut off everything that makes noise and sit back and watch the entertainment. It'd be cool if you could buy "live fly" toys for them hehehe.

The first time I got to play with my kitty in the shelters interaction room, there was a fly in there and she caught and ate it within no time. Hasn't been any in my place now that I know of, but I have found a half eaten cricket, just the legs left hehe.

You wanna see some entertainment? - point your kitty to the next spider you find, they paw at and might try to eat but will spit out cause prickly then continue to paw/play when it tries to run.

Guess I'm a little twisted cause one of these days when another grass hopper jumps on me I might let kitty play with it.

Yes, he stares at spiders on the ceiling and meows constantly because he can't reach them. I usually take a piece of paper and bring the spider down to the floor but he just watches it and paws at it, then loses interest. He rarely eats a spider. I would be curious to bring a grasshopper in the house but with the way they hop and fly I'd be afraid he'd knock over lamps and what-not while jumping after it.
