Hi all, new member here. So I have 2 young(ish) cats and one will not use the litter box anymore. He used to use it just fine then one day just...stopped. No change whatsoever to the litter, location, etc.

Thought it was temporary but it persists. He'll run through the house, pooping as he goes. (not getting the zoomies after pooping). We have him on special food to prevent urinary tract infections (again) but I do give him quite a lot of treats (Temptations) if I'm being honest.

When we let them out in the back yard, I've seen him pee in the mulch pile behind the garage, which is fine honestly. But for whatever reason I can't figure out why he's behaving like this! It's like he doesn't know he needs to poop and it just 'happens' wherever he happens to be at the time. Vet didn't say much initially. All told, he appeared healthy.

You all have any ideas? Because I'm out of them ;)

Thanks for reading!

My co workers cat does this. She took him to the vet and he has a thyroid issue. After that was controlled better he went back to using litterbox. I would get a complete blood work done and poop sample just to make sure no medical issues. Sometimes cats are picky about the type of litter used. Lucky for me both of my cats adjusted extremely well to food changes , litter changes and I have moved numerous times with them and travelled all over the US with them. I was told I was lucky because from what I’m hearing cats hate change and stress easily. You can try those pheromone wall plug ins ( feliaway ) something like that. I use comfort zone occasionally. It’s suppose to reduce stress in cats. They didn’t work much for my cat but reviews are really good
Thanks for the reply. We have a appt set for a couple weeks. I'll def bring that up. Thanks.
