My cats currently eat a homemade ground raw food, NV and Stella and Chewys. They also eat drumsticks, necks and wings. I want to start a frankenprey diet, so I went to the local Asian Food Market. I found pig heart, pig kidney, pig tongue, chicken hearts and livers. My only concern is the origins. Nothing is labeled "natural" or "no hormones or antibiotics" like they are in a standard grocery store. I guess I am just a little concerned about what chemicals could be in the meats. They looks fresh and completely fine... the store is large and very popular in the area. I guess I am just looking for someone to tell me its ok and that my cats wont die of poisoning from the meats at this store.....I myself am a vegetarian and I know the kinds of things that can be in meats. I know plenty of people on this forum use meats from places just like this and I need a little reassurance about the possibility of hormones and things in the meats and their affects on cats. I cannot find a butcher that sells organic meats in my area so this Asian food market is perfect to get the odds and ends I need on a regular basis.

Chances are the meat there is slightly better than regular grocery store meat (depending on the source). Maybe they get it local? Smaller farms? Who knows!

The "things in meat" are still in pet food.. :) We feed meat from many sources: commercial superstores, mom&pop stores, asian markets, people who have their own cattle/pigs, hobby farmers (rabbits), in town butchers & country butchers.

The only real difference I've noticed is that they love stuff from the butchers/hobby farms the most.. they still eat EVERYTHING.. just prefer butcher meat/hobby farm meat.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry. Whatever it is, it's about a million times better than what's in even the "best" petfood. For ethical reasons, I do my best to get free-range, etc. But if you're only worried about how good it will be for the kitty, honestly, the Asian markets are a great source, esp. of some more unusual stuff. :)

I usually get free range, organic meats too, and I will still do so for the plain meats, but for organs and hearts I cannot find them anywhere but the Asian food market. I assumed that pet foods used worse meats, BUT I feel like at least they test the batches and check for unusually high levels of pesticides, hormones, antibiotics etc. I guess I just needed to make sure there werent any issues anyone knew about by using meats from unknown sources like poisoning, etc.

That would be nice, but no, they don't. :(
