So I noticed that cats are super good at catching bugs and mosquitos and whatnot. Electra and Antigone both go nuts when they see a moth or mosquito in the house. Electra makes the most irrated meow ever cuz she can't reach it or whatever. Anyways... Antigone somehow always ends up catching them when they fly down low and then... she... eats... them... 8O It's disgusting. She ate a large moth once (I watched her chomp it down in disgust), and just now.. she ate a large mosquito.

I know Electra likes to play with the bug but she won't eat it. Do your cats eat the bugs too or just play with them until they die?

both, Hudson is the bughunter, and she eats 'em, spiders too. My other two just trash the place trying to catch them. It cracks me up when I come home from work and the table tops are cleared and lamps knocked over, I know there was a bug in da house.

my guys do this too... not sure if they eat them if they catch them when i'm not around, but when i am around, i usually take it away from them and toss out the dead carcass... their response is usually to look for it as if it flew off again.

i'm glad i have bug catchers though... don't have many come thru here, but they're good at letting me know when one's in the apartment :)

He just plays with them. He doesn't even play with them enough so they die!! I wish he would at least do that! Even better if he would eat the darn things!! My son gets creeped out by the house spiders so it's better if I or the cat finds them & kills them right away.

In the case of Dusty, it depends. Moths are good eatins'. However, beetles, catapillers, and spiders must not taste too good, he doesn't eat them.....

Assumpta is a very good bug catcher (though she is an even better mouser). Whether or not she eats them depends on her mood. If she is feeling playful, she'll play with the bug for a while, and seems truly insulted if the bug should expire before she's done having fun...but if she's annoyed or upset, it is instant bug dinner.

My boys are both excellent bug catchers. I've noticed that mosquitos and moths are favorites on their dining menu. Never is a speck left, Crickets, on the other hand, must not meet with their exquesite taste, but must be great fun to play with because I always find leftovers. At least they have the good sense to always finish the kill, so mom doesn't have to be grossed out by doing it herself.

Both my boys love catching bugs. In the end, they always eat them. The best is when a fly gets in the house, because they will run all over the house like NUTS trying to catch it, and it's big enough that we can see where it went, unlike a mosquito.

Mine is a bug eater! He wont stop chasing a fly until it is dead and in his belly. It is funny when the cat runs all over the house frantically chasing down the fly and after he has slowed it down a bit the dog will catch it and eat it!!!! You can see, "hey, that was mine" ticked off expression clearly!!!

K, Kitty eats all kinds of bugs, that is pretty much a given (and he talks to them while he's doing it).
The weird thing is the slugs. I watched him haul in two slugs and ate them both. I nearly puked!
The frog was sad too, little froggy guts all over the cream carpet. . .

well, Motoko, I don't think whether or not it's good for them is relevant. The bigger issue is how in the heck could you stop them if it wasn't? I'm thinking its pretty harmless, although disgusting to us. Unless they ate a black widow or poisonous snake I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I caught my oldest one time in the corner putting the smack down on a yellowjacket that I didn't know was in the house. I had to put a stop to that one. 8O

Bug catchers

There's nothing Jimmy likes better than a little 'hors d'oevre of moth' before his dinner.
Its really quite gross to watch him
He'll chase anything up to and including the size of a sparrow. Anything bigger than that, he's afraid of it (what a wuss!) But its only moths that he eats on a regular basis.

All of mine like to chase & eat bugs... Boomer however is the fastest and best at catcing bugs - where as Bumper is rather slow... so being the nice big brother Boomer is - he tends to catch one for Bumper too and lets Bumper eat it

Last night Kiera would NOT stop meowing from the hour of 4AM until I got out of bed at a quarter to 8. I had no idea what she was meowing at! She was climbing all over my comptuer and reaching up for the ceiling like she often does, even when I look and I can't see waht it is.

When I finally got up and turned on a light, I noticed a crawly long-bodied black bug crawling along the ceiling! No wonder she was meowing so loud, it was JUST out of her reach! She was definitely irritated. Just wish she could have let it go until morning so I could have slept better!

oooh I know what that irritated meow sounds like... and yes it's irritating lol... especially with Electra. Normally, she doesnt meow pleasantly like a regular cat so a weird nasally meow plus irritation equals awful awful sound haha

The other day, we had a big crane fly in the house and neither my husband nor I really wanted to try to get it. Just then, our younger cat walked in, and this little boy is quite the hunter. So my husband picked him up and showed him where the crane fly was. Just then, the fly took off, bumbling around the room as they do, and within ten seconds the cat had caught it. I thought he was eating it and that was bad enough, but then he lifted his head and I saw he was carrying it in his mouth! I'm pregnant and things are grossing me out pretty easily, so I ran out of the room to avoid seeing what followed - and the cat followed me downstairs, all the way into the kitchen, holding this crane fly in his mouth the whole way! Finally, he left it in the kitchen - I guess he got bored. My husband ended up having to get it with a paper towel after all!
